About TerraCycle:
TerraCycle is the world leader in the collection and recycling of post-consumer non-recyclable waste. Currently, we operate over 110 waste collection programs in 22 countries around the world with over 35 million people participating. Our goal is to eliminate the idea of waste by creating solutions for most items that today would be sent to landfills in the Americas, and to incineration in Europe and other parts of the world. Once named the “Coolest Start-up in America” by Inc. magazine, TerraCycle is a rapidly growing, cutting-edge eco-capitalist entrepreneurial venture.
TerraCycle was founded in 2001 by Tom Szaky, then a 19-year-old Princeton University freshman. Since, Tom’s vision has led to several evolutions in the business model. The company now employs over 100 staff, with 50 based in the US and 50 internationally.
The Executive Team consists of Tom Szaky, Richard Perl, (Columbia AB/JD/MBA), Daniel Rosen (Cornell BA/Miami JD) and Liana Scobie (Colorado Coll. BA). The Executive Team oversees activities in our foreign markets, opens new subsidiaries, and works closely with all operational departments, including legal, finance, business development, operations, and R&D.
Executive Team Internship:
Interns joining the Executive Team will lead substantive projects from start to finish (and collaborate on others) exploring new strategic initiatives that may be implemented in the US or another country. Insights will be gained into how the company is structured, managed and financed, as well as how international tax planning, marketing and new business development are carried out. Depending on your interest, you may help us explore the environment in different countries for TerraCycle’s business plan and explore roll-out possibilities, or to look into innovations with schools, religious groups, businesses, and homes interested in moving toward zero waste.
In addition, some specific tasks that we’ll seek support on include:
Specific research opportunities to be worked out with the team We are looking for bright, mission-driven interns to assist with a wide range of executive tasks.
Nuts and Bolts:
Although the internship is unpaid, we provide a bountiful lunch every day, a well-organized educational experience with interdepartmental lectures so that you can learn about all aspects of TerraCycle’s operations and business management in general, and regular intern events and company parties. Last year, there were 100 interns from top colleges, law schools and business schools. It’s a dynamic and highly charged entrepreneurial environment. Due to our eco-focus, some schools, including Princeton, provide a stipend for their students to work at TerraCycle, so please check with your school if they can provide support.
The internship is located at our graffiti-covered headquarters in Trenton, NJ. The preferred duration of the internship is 8-10 weeks between May 28th to August 22nd. Interns will be asked to bring their own laptops to the office, but printing facilities and general office supplies will be provided by TerraCycle. All interested applicants are to send a cover letter and resume with the subject line “Summer 2013 Internship” to Liana Scobie, Executive Team Associate at:

No submissions will be accepted later than April 15th, 2013 please.
