Building a sustainable future with Kwik Lok

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This program is now closed. Kwik Lok, the sponsor behind the Bread Bag Closure Recycling Program is moving away from their current plastic bread tags and focusing on new sustainable options. Head to the Kwik Lok website to stay up to date about their new bread tags.

How it works

Participating in your home, office, school or organisation is completely free and very easy.

Collect used bread bag closures in any box, until you have collected at least 1kg. When you are ready to send in a shipment, download a shipping label from your TerraCycle account by clicking “Request a postage label” and follow the prompts.

Print out your label and tape it securely onto your box. Ship the box to Terracycle by dropping it off at your nearest post office.

What you can recycle in this program

Program accepted waste: This program accepts any brand of used plastic bread bag closures, including EcoLok bread bag closures.

Important notes:

  • This program does not accept other forms of bag closures such as twist ties and tape.
  • Please remove any labels from bag closures before sending to TerraCycle, as this contaminates the waste stream.

What happens to the waste

Once collected, the bread closures are cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remoulded to make new recycled products. Click here for more information about our recycling process.

Small closure, big impact

As thanks for your dedication to diverting waste from landfills, a $1 donation will be made to Keep Australia Beautiful for every kilogram of accepted waste sent through this program.
