In this program all writing instruments (expect for wooden pencils, crayons and chalk) are accepted. Collect and send any brand of pen, felt tip, highlighter, marker, correction fluid pot, correction tape, mechanical pencil and eraser pen (cap included) regardless of their composition (plastic, metal).

Please note that we do not accept glue sticks, erasers, rulers or other cutting objects that could disturb the recycling process. 

We strongly encourage you to collect at least 1-2kg of writing instruments before sending your parcel, to help us operate this program efficiently and to minimise the program's footprint.

Please note that you should send us a shipment at least once every year. If we do not receive any shipments from you within a 12 month period, you will be removed from the program, in order to enable other locations that are patiently on the waiting list to join.

If you are removed from the program, you will receive an an email to let you know about it, and you will have one week to join the program again by clicking on the button “Join Program for Free” if you do have pens ready to send in.

If you don't anticipate that you will collect significant volumes of writing instruments, you can either:

  • visit our Public Drop-Off map to find a location near you, and drop off your waste at their collection point
  • sign up for the program, and register to become a public drop-off location for your community to boost your collections (and your donations)
  • sign up for the program and collect as part of a larger group, for example a school or your workplace

Please log into your account on the TerraCycle website. In your profile, look under COLLECTION PROGRAMS for a list of programs you have joined. On the right hand side of your screen, you'll see a grey cross - click this to remove yourself from this program.

Yes. You can select, add or change your preferred charities via your account on the TerraCycle website. Simply log into your account at www.terracycle.com.au and click on the "MY IMPACT" tab.

Scroll down to "Charities". To add a new preferred charity to your account, please select the "Add New Charity" link. You can also call 1-800-983-324 or email customersupport@terracycle.com.au with the charity name, address and contact person.

When you are ready to send in a shipment, click "REQUEST A POSTAGE LABEL”. Select the "Send Me a Postage Label" option and TerraCycle will email an Australia Post pre-paid return label to you. Print the pre-paid label and affix it to your reused box or bag and bring it to a local Australia Post Office.

If you cannot see an option to download a postage label:

  • Firstly, make sure you have joined the program. It's possible you may have created a TerraCycle account but not signed up for the program.
  • Make sure you are not on a waitlist - to help us manage the growth of the program, we have a set number of collection spots available which have been funded by the brand. If all spots are filled, new collectors will be placed on a waitlist until more spots become available.You will not be able to send us your collections until you have been activated into the program.
