Clean Up Australia empowers communities to reduce the environmental impacts of waste.

In 1989 an 'average Australian bloke', Ian Kiernan, had a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard - Sydney Harbour. This simple idea has now become the nation's largest community-based environmetal event - Clean Up Australia Day. Our volunteers remove the waste before it gets into the watreways and impacts our beautiful wildlife.

of volunteer time has donated to Clean Up activities to benefit our environment.
 

Clean Up Australia also advocates for initiatives that reduce the amount of litter and the amount of waste going to landfill. It has been very active in the campaigns for container deposit legislation and banning of single use plastic bags at the checkout. We are now campainging on plastic straws and educating people to Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
