Thanks to the help of our collection partners, TerraCycle has collected over 300,000 pounds of beach plastic to date! That being said, we are putting additional collections on hold while we work on recycling the materials we've already collected. We will not be accepting new members in this program for the time being. Please check back in the coming months, as we intend to reopen the program as soon as we can.

How it works

Participating is completely free. To send us your waste simply request a freight pickup.

All shipments must be sent through freight shipments. To coordinate a freight shipment for your rigid beach plastics, please reach out to Please provide the address, estimated weight, and number of pallets in your email. We will supply you with bulk bags (for storing and shipping) as well as promotional support to encourage others to recycle with you.

What you can recycle

Program accepted waste: All rigid beach plastics are accepted. Rigid "beach" plastics are any rigid plastics found along any shoreline (i.e. rivers, beaches, bays, lakes). Please review the "Best Practices" below for more information.

Please note: Styrofoam is NOT accepted.

Recycling guidelines

Please do your best to sort out organic matter and pieces of waste that are clearly not rigid plastics. While we ask that items be reasonably clean and dry, we do not require extensive cleaning and a small amount of residual organic matter is acceptable.

And please note, we are only accepting rigid plastics. Soft or flexible plastics like nylon rope, fishing nets, and plastic bags are not accepted through this program at this time.

What happens to your recyclables

Once received at a TerraCycle facility, each piece of plastic waste is separated by type and cleaned. The waste is then melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.
