Recycle all your beauty product packaging
TerraCycle® and Garnier® have partnered to create a free recycling programme for all beauty product packaging. The programme also offers participants the opportunity to fundraise for their favourite school or charity. Please note only Primary Schools can now join the programme due to the ongoing contest. For more details. please click here.
If you are not collecting for a Primary School, please drop off your personal care and beauty product packaging at an existing public drop-off location.
There are 3 ways to participate:
1. Set up your own public drop-off location in your community. To do so, please join the programme by clicking on "Join programme for free" on the programme page and then fill in this form to complete the process.
2. Search on the interactive map to see if you have a public drop-off location close by. If there is one, then simply take your accepted waste to the public drop-off location and drop them off during the designated hours.
3. If there isn’t one already in place where you live, or you aren’t able to set up your own, then you have the option to sign up as a private collector by clicking on "Join programme for free" on The Personal Care and Beauty Recycling Programme page.
When you want to post a shipment, download a free UPS label from your account, attach it to your shipment and then simply order a free pick-up via UPS by calling 03457 877 877 or book a collection online here. UPS will then collect from your location. You can also drop-off your parcel at your closest UPS drop-off point, which you can find here.
All brands are accepted!
Good news, plastic bottles are recyclable in almost all UK council recycling systems. Our programme does accept plastic bottles, however as these are widely recyclable, we ask that you only send us bottles if it is not possible to recycle them via your local council system. Always remember to remove the labels on the bottles and recycle them with TerraCycle. Click here for a complete overview of the beauty products packaging you can recycle through TerraCycle and what you can recycle locally.
*A note on aerosol containers
At this time aerosols are not accepted as part of the recycling programme. We are exploring with TerraCycle the potential for their inclusion in the future, however the good news is that in most parts of the UK, aerosol recycling is possible. More than 96% of local authorities recycle aerosols through kerbside collections. Please visit your local council website to find out how you can recycle aerosols locally. Always make sure your aerosols are empty and recycle the aerosol lids separately.
In order to recycle this waste stream properly, please make sure all excess product has been removed (i.e. leftover product) and place all the accepted packaging in a box. If you choose to rinse your product, please note that it must be completely dry prior to shipping. Tape the box together securely ensuring there are no loose edges or corners. Print your label and attach it securely to the shipment.
Once collected, the personal care and beauty packaging is separated by polymer type, cleaned, and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.
TerraCycle points can be redeemed for a variety of charitable gifts or a payment of £0.01 to the non-profit organisation of your choice. For more information about our points programme, click here.
