Recycle all your beauty product packaging
There are 2 different ways to participate in this programme:
Find your nearest public drop-off location on the interactive map on the programme page and drop off your personal care and beauty product packaging.
To learn more about public drop-off locations, please click here.
If there are no public drop-off locations near you, you can set up your own in a convenient location where you have the authorisation to do so. Simply follow the steps below:
To learn more about what public drop-off locations are and what it involves to set up one, please click here.
Once you are a member of the programme (by setting up a public drop-off location) and when you are ready to send a shipment, please follow these steps:
Due to logistical reasons, at this time we cannot operate the free recycling programmes in the Isle of Man or Channel Islands. The TerraCycle® Operations Team are looking into different logistical solutions to start the free recycling programmes in these locations and we are hoping to have a solution soon. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Please download our Accepted Waste Poster for more details.
Please note that plastic bottles are recyclable in almost all UK council recycling systems. Our programme does accept plastic bottles, however as these are widely recyclable, we ask that you only send us bottles if it is not possible to recycle them via your local council system. Always remember to remove the labels on the bottles and recycle them with TerraCycle®. Click here for a complete overview of the beauty products packaging you can recycle through TerraCycle and what you can recycle locally.
*A note on aerosol containers
At this time aerosols are not accepted as part of the recycling programme. We are exploring with TerraCycle® the potential for their inclusion in the future, however the good news is that in most parts of the UK, aerosol recycling is possible. More than 96% of local authorities recycle aerosols through kerbside collections. Please visit your local council website to find out how you can recycle aerosols locally. Always make sure your aerosols are empty and recycle the aerosol lids separately.
Once you have joined The Personal Care and Beauty Recycling Programme (by setting up a public drop-off location) and when you are ready to send a shipment, please follow these steps:
You can download as many labels as you have parcels to send.
You can use any cardboard box to send your waste, however the box must be clean and sturdy. Once you have your box, put your waste directly in it, close it well and stick the prepaid shipping label on the box (the shipment is of course completely free).
If you have not received your points within two months after your shipment was sent, please contact us so that we can investigate it for you.
You will need to send back a shipment within 6 months of your registration, and if you are inactive for a 6 month period during any other time you will be removed to enable someone that is on the waiting list and wants to participate to join.
Once collected, the personal care and beauty packaging is separated by polymer type, cleaned, and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.
If you wish to stop collecting this waste, log in to your account, select the "my recycling programmes" tab and click on the small grey cross to the right of the name of The Personal Care and Beauty Recycling Programme.
TerraCycle® points are credited to the account of the person who sent in the shipment. The number of points given is determined by the total weight of the shipment. 1 TerraCycle® point is worth 1 penny.
Once credited, the points can be redeemed into financial donations to the charity or school chosen by the owner of the points. The points must be redeemed on the TerraCycle® website.
100 TerraCycle® points will be awarded for each kilogram sent. Be careful, the points will only be awarded if the shipment weighs more than 100 grams
To redeem your points as financial donations, a minimum of 1,000 points or £10 is required.
All points redeemed between the 1st of May and the 31st of October will be donated in December. Points redeemed between the 1st of November and the 30th of April will be donated in June.
To redeem your points for the charity or school of your choice, simply log in to your TerraCycle® account and go to the "my charities" tab. Once on this page, TerraCycle® offers 3 ways to choose a charity:
If you have chosen to donate to a charity (either by selecting an existing charity or by adding a new one), you must choose the number of points you wish to redeem (as a reminder, you must convert a minimum of 1,000 points).
Check the contents of your cart and click on "checkout" to close the transaction.
