The health and safety of our collectors and their communities is our greatest priority. In light of the growing concerns around the developing Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are closely following the official advice given by the UK Government and the World Health Organisation. Please find some updates about our free recycling programmes below.

Collecting and sending waste

As of today, UPS is transporting your parcels as normal and we continue to receive and check them in at our warehouse. However, as the government recommendations and guidelines can change at any time, we strongly encourage all programme members to send their parcels in the near future, especially if they have a large quantity of waste stored.

We will continue to monitor the situation and you will be informed of any changes to transportation or warehouse operations as the situation progresses.

Information for visitors to public drop-off locations

While you can still collect at home as normal, we recommend you follow the government guidelines regarding social distancing when dropping off your waste at any public drop-off location. However, please be advised that some public drop-off locations may be closed (such as schools) and others (such as high footfall locations) may be best avoided at this stage, so don’t hesitate to contact them before going there.

Information for public drop-off location administrators

If you wish to continue receiving waste, you can carry on as usual with your public drop-off location but we recommend that you simply take additional precautions:

  • Use protective equipment such as gloves when handling any waste and avoid touching your face
  • Once you’ve emptied your collection boxes, if possible leave the waste aside for 72 hours before you sort / package it up to be shipped
  • Always wash your hands for 20 seconds after handling waste
  • Practice social distancing and other health and hygiene measures as recommended by the government and World Health Organisation

If however, you wish to suspend collection at your public drop-off location, please let your community know and email TerraCycle®. We can temporarily remove your location from the relevant map(s) and we can then reinstate your location when you request to add it back.
