Get to know dedicated TerraCyclers from around the globe

This Global Recycling Day, we’re highlighting TerraCyclers from around the globe! Check out how individuals and groups from Brazil to France are fundraising for great causes and cleaning up their communities by recycling the unrecyclable with us.

Les Collectes de La Main Verte (The Green Hand Collection), France 

Les Collectes de La Main Verte collects tights, coffee capsules, writing instruments, dental care packaging, razors, and cleaning gloves to recycle through TerraCycle programmes. The community group manages different public drop-off points across their area, including a supermarket, local shops, a community centre, and more. The funds they raise through recycling with TerraCycle are donated to social causes in their community, such as the charity Le Sourire de Noélya, which supports 7-year-old Noélya, who suffers from a rare mitochondrial disease. 

St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association Waste Reduction Group, Canada

The St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association Waste Reduction Group is made up of locals dedicated to fighting climate change and protecting the environment through improving local waste reduction efforts. The group has teamed up with TerraCycle to collect and recycle pervasive cigarette waste throughout the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood. (See how TerraCycle recycles cigarette waste!) 

Flinders Council, Australia

Flinders Council in Tasmania runs a recycling hub at Walker’s IGA supermarket, collecting everything from skincare products to coffee capsules, oral care, printer cartridges, e-waste, and more to recycle via TerraCycle programmes and other programmes for hard-to-recycle rubbish. Sabrina of Flinders Council says having access to recycling services is especially important for a Bass Strait island like Flinders. They are impacted by high freight costs, lack of on-island recycling infrastructure, and limited access to recycling facilities on mainland Tasmania. “Recycling programmes in which corporations take responsibility for the waste generated from their products are crucial for our community.”​

Amorforte, Brazil

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) Amorforte in Brazil is a social urbanism initiative led by women over 50 to promote social equality. Sandra, Ana Rosa, Edna and Joana are residents of Torrões in Recife – Pernambuco and neighbours of the NGO, which recently became a public drop-off point to collect sponges and writing instruments that are recycled through TerraCycle programme.

Trenton Climate Corps, USA

Trenton Climate Corps’ participation in TerraCycle’s Cigarette Waste Free Recycling Program addresses the nation’s most commonly littered item and also reduces a form of potentially harmful plastic waste. Aware that cigarette butts do not decompose naturally due to their plastic filters, Trenton Climate Corps was eager to address the hazard they pose to sensitive wildlife habitats in nearby waterways, including the Delaware River and areas downstream. By highlighting the connection between common street litter, like cigarettes, and the ongoing problem of marine plastic pollution, Trenton Climate Corps is “kicking ash” in Trenton, New Jersey.
