Meet some of our collectors from across the UK!

Our collectors are our most important partner in our mission for Eliminating the Idea of Waste®. They’re the volunteers on the ground, collecting the hard-to-recycle rubbish local councils typically don’t accept, and sending it to us for recycling. They can expand their recycling activity by opening public drop-off points, so their communities can recycle, too.

Not only are these collectors volunteering to give back to the planet, but they can also give back to schools, charities, and other nonprofit organisations. Through the TerraCycle Recycling Rewards programme, they can earn TerraCycle points by recycling in eligible free recycling programmes, and redeem those points as a donation to the school or charity of their choice.

Let’s meet some of our collectors and learn more about their initiatives, the charity they collect for and some useful tips for other collectors like you.

Holy Trinity church - Gillingham

Holy Trinity church became a public drop-off point in March 2018. Since then, their collection point has grown significantly, joining more recycling programmes and making it more accessible for everyone. Their recycling initiative is an integral part of their mission to look after their community, live an eco-friendly lifestyle and educate young people.

Sarah Sharp - Berwick-upon-Tweed

Sarah Sharp started collecting and recycling with TerraCycle in 2023. Today, her Saturday recycling routine takes her to 11 local cafés - from independent venues to large chains like Greggs, Costa and McDonald’s - to collect empty flexible coffee and hot chocolate bags. Thanks to their support in her recycling efforts, she raises money for the Soi Dog Foundation, a Thailand-based charity which helps street dogs and cats, through the TerraCycle points she earns.

St Mary's CE Primary School - Walkley, Sheffield

Even a small school can have a big impact! About 2 years ago in Walkley, Sheffield, St Mary's CE Primary School started to recycle bakery bags through its eco-club. Initially, only a few children were bringing in bags from home. But the initiative has grown and is now also collecting bags from the school kitchen, the after-school club and staff members, and helps raise funds for the school through our rewards points.
