Important!

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak and safety measures we’ve put in place to protect our customers, employees and partners, your box should be fully sealed with adhesive tape and stored securely for 72 hours before requesting a collection.

If you or any of your staff are self-isolating, quarantined or suspect COVID-19 contamination of the PPE, please do not use your box to recycle the material and follow Government guidelines on how to dispose of such waste.

How it works

Please choose the size box you'd like to purchase. When you receive your box fill it with the appropriate waste streams. Once full, bring your box to any UPS location or schedule a collection to send your items back to TerraCycle using the pre-paid UPS shipping label which is already affixed to your box. When we receive your box, we'll safely recycle all of the collected materials.

What happens to the waste?

The collected waste is mechanically and/or manually separated into fabrics, metals, fibres, and plastics. Fabrics are reused, upcycled or recycled as appropriate. Metals are smelted so they may be recycled. The fibres (such as paper or wood based products) are recycled or composted. The plastics undergo extrusion and pelletisation to be moulded into new recycled plastic products.

Accepted waste

Use this Zero Waste Box to recycle:

  • Disposable protective face masks such as dust masks, FFP2 (or so-called "N95"), FFP3 and surgical masks (as long as they don't come from a medical environment)
  • Face shields and visors
  • Disposable vinyl, nitrile and latex gloves

Please do NOT...

  • Medical waste. This includes material contaminated with blood or bodily fluids and waste that originates from health care facilities, hospitals, care homes, physicians' offices, dental offices, blood banks, veterinary clinics, research laboratories, etc.
  • Gloves that are contaminated with materials considered hazardous or dangerous, according to the European-wide list of wastes Regulation (AVV)
  • Fabric, homemade or paper masks or other types of protective garments.
  • Hairnets, earplugs, and lab coats or garments
  • Hazardous waste (sharp, flammable, reactive, corrosive, ignitable, toxic, infectious or pathogenic) or material contaminated with blood which presents a danger to the environment, or to people.

Best practices for recycling

Only send in items this system accepts. Sending in items that fall outside the selected category causes contamination and the need for added separation, which increases costs.

Help make this nationally recyclable

We work with brand partners to create recycling solutions that enable consumers to recycle their products and/or packaging for free. If you represent an eco-minded company and are interested in working with us, please contact customercare@terracycle.co.uk.
