TerraCycle and Gillette have partnered to create a recycling programme for any brand of used razors, their blades and their packaging! Due to the nature of the waste, we'll be supplying all Community Collection Hubs that sign up to this programme with a collection box! These will be shipped to you within two weeks of joining the programme. Please ensure all packages shipped through this programme adhere to the following regulations:

  • Waste must be packed in a strong and sturdy cardboard box. Please do not use bags, sachets, flimsy cardboard boxes or the packaging your razors were sold in.
  • We do not accept any other type of blade or sharp through this programme - razors and their packaging only.
  • Please be cautious of where you store your collection box, keeping it away from children and pets.

How it works

The Community Collection Hub network is a network of locations around New Zealand where members of the community can take their 'non-recyclable' waste to be recycled with TerraCycle.

Becoming a Hub is the most sustainable way to collect TerraCycle waste. Bigger shipments mean less environmental impact, while earning more donations for the charity or school of your choice. Here's how it works:

  1. Request to join the program by clicking "Join the programme" above.
  2. Once active in the programme, a collection box will be shipped to the address in your TerraCycle profile.
  3. Once your box arrives you can set up your recycling station. Don't forget you can use the resources provided below on this page.
  4. The address listed in your TerraCycle account will be posted on the publicly available Community Collection Hubs map. Individuals in your area will use your location to drop off their used razor blades and packaging.
  5. Once you're read to ship, empty the contents of your Gillette box into another empty cardboard box. We recommend reusing one you already own.
  6. Download a free shipping label from your TerraCycle profile, affix it to your box of waste and take it to your closest New Zealand Post to ship.

What you can recycle in this programme

Programme accepted waste: Any brand of used razors, their blades and their packaging, including:

  • All brands of blades and razors (refillable and disposable products, and replaceable-blade cartridge units)
  • Rigid plastic packaging
  • Flexible plastic packaging

Please note: cardboard and paper packaging is recyclable through regular Council recycling. Please do not include these in your collections for this programme.

What happens to the waste

Once collected, the razor blades and their packaging are broken down and separated by material. Plastics are cleaned and pelletised to be recycled into new products, and metal materials are sent for smelting and conversion to new alloys. Click here for more information about our recycling process.

TerraCycle Points

For each unit of used razor blades and packaging that you send to TerraCycle, you will receive one TerraCycle Point, which can be redeemed for a payment of NZ$0.01 to the non-profit organisation or school of your choice, such as our recommended charity Movember.

There is no minimum shipment weight required to earn points, although we encourage collectors to collect a few months of waste with your friends and family before sending in a parcel!
