Northern Safety employees recycle 24,854 cigarette butts

The waste goes to a company called TerraCycle — partnered with Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Co. — that converts the cigarettes butts into a variety of products, primarily plastic pallets for industrial uses. About 65 percent of all cigarette butts are disposed of improperly and account for 38 percent of all U.S. roadway litter, according to Keep America Beautiful.
