Behind the Scenes with TerraCycle

Last year the Philadelphia Union unveiled a new sculpture made from entirely recycled items to commemorate their “zero-landfill” status. The Union was first in the MLS to achieve that goal and the sculpture is really impressive. We were fortunate enough to meet this statue when it was just coming together as refuse items at the place where recycling and art come together, TerraCycle.

TerraCycle is located in Trenton NJ and is a really cool place that we hope to get back to this season on Weekend Philler. We got so much great footage from the artists that we wanted to show a little more detail how this sculpture came together.

8 Tiny Beauty Tweaks You Can Make to Be More Eco-Friendly

Instead of just throwing them away in the trash, recycle beauty products properly with beauty-specific programs. Unfortunately, many beauty products cannot be recycled in regular blue bins with other cans and bottles. That's why programs like TerraCycle exist — they allow you to mail your typically non-recyclable empty beauty products to them to be properly repurposed.
To take your efforts a step further, you can look to support brands that partner with recycling programs. Garnier, Love Beauty and Planet, and Göt2b, to name a few, are all partners with TerraCycle and reward customers in various ways for recycling their empty products. Nordstrom started its own recycling program in partnership with TerraCycle in 2020 called BeautyCycle, where it collects empty product containers via recycling boxes in its department stores.
