Becoming a drop-off location allows community members to contribute to your cereal bag collections.
TerraCycle® and Malt-O-Meal® have partnered to create public drop-off locations for the Malt-O-Meal® Cereal Bag Recycling Program, a free recycling program for cereal bags as well as a fundraising opportunity for participants.
Public drop-off locations are an easy and efficient way to collect natural care products and packaging from your community. This program is designed for participants who have (or who plan to have) public drop-off locations publicly available and want to spread awareness and traffic to those drop-off locations (thereby increasing the number of pieces of waste you collect and the points you earn).
After accpetance to the program, the address listed in your account will be posted on the publicly available map.
We will advertise your drop-off location on a publicly viewable map and provide support through our Customer Service Department. We want to help you turn your drop-off location into a successful recycling station for your community.
If you need to update your drop-off location on the public map, you may do so by contacting TerraCycle Customer Support.
Are there any types of locations that cannot be listed as a public drop-off location?
Schools and individual homes do not qualify as public drop-off locations. Public drop-off locations must be accessible by the public in your community.
Program accepted waste: Plastic cereal bags and box liners
In order to recycle this waste stream properly, please make sure all excess product has been removed (i.e. large crumbs). Additionally, if you choose to rinse your product, please note that it must be completely dry prior to shipping. You cannot ship dripping packages.
Once collected, the products and packaging are cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.
TerraCycle points can be redeemed for a variety of charitable gifts, product bundles, or a payment of $0.01 per point to the non-profit organization or school of your choice. To learn more about our points program, click here.
Malt-O-Meal® believes that the bag is better, which is why their bagged cereals have 75% less packaging than cereal in a box. They desire to help save the environment, one bag at a time. Click here to learn more.
