Business Development Associate – Zero Waste Box™ Program

The Business Development Associate will be responsible for building partnerships with commercial brands, manufacturers, retailers, and distributors while accumulating a growing pipeline for sales outreach.

TerraCycle is the world leader in the collection and recycling of post-consumer waste that is generally considered “non-recyclable.”  In over 20 countries, we collect billions of pieces of waste, mostly made up of plastic packaging that is otherwise destined for landfill or incineration.  By collecting coherent waste streams (millions of chip bags, millions of drink pouches, millions of safety glasses, etc.), we are able to use third party facilities to recycle these waste streams into a format that can be used by third party manufacturers.

Our business is largely funded by the major consumer brands of the world (Kraft Foods, Colgate-Palmolive, L’Oreal, PepsiCo, etc.), which pay us to operate post-consumer collection programs.  These collection programs render the brand’s previously non-recyclable packaging or products nationally recyclable.  TerraCycle also works with the manufacturing facilities and packaging suppliers for these large brands to recycle their pre-consumer waste.  This results in the collection of millions of pounds of post-industrial waste that TerraCycle can process and sell into one of many end-product applications.

Over the last couple of years, TerraCycle has pioneered another business unit called “Zero Waste Boxes.”  These boxes are designed to be all-inclusive, turn-key recycling solutions for the specific waste stream(s) that are generated at businesses and other sites.  This is the fastest-growing business unit inside our global organization, and we are looking for a talented individual to continue selling this unique product range at a high level.

This job is based out of TerraCycle’s global office headquarters in Trenton, NJ.  The Business Development Associate works on the Zero Waste Box team and reports to the Vice President of our Zero Waste Box division.  The team works closely with TerraCycle’s Operations team to develop pricing for boxes and raw materials, logistics and recycling costs, and ongoing support procedures for our clients.  This is an important role that we are putting in place to sustain the growth of this division and drive new business with companies that are not currently prioritizing their internal recycling practices.

The successful candidate should be an organized self-starter who is very comfortable on the phone and has excellent communication skills.  Due to the unique nature of our business, the need to communicate our offerings in a clear and succinct manner is paramount to his or her success.  The Business Development Associate will be responsible for building partnerships with commercial brands, manufacturers, retailers, and distributors while accumulating a growing pipeline for sales outreach.
