Director, TerraCycle Universal Waste Division

We are looking for a capable and dynamic manager with Universal Waste experience to build the TerraCycle Universal Waste Division into a large and multi-country division.

TerraCycle is the world leader in the collection and recycling of post-consumer waste that is generally considered non-recyclable. We recycle everything from pens, toothbrushes, candy wrappers, to cigarette butts and scores of other waste streams that would otherwise be sent to landfills or incinerated. Headquartered in Trenton, NJ and operating in 23 countries, we are a dynamic and profitable green business working with businesses, governments, NGO’s and the public to collect and recycle waste and build a circular economy. Major companies contract with TerraCycle, to provide national recycling programs that are free to the public. We also offer a wide selection of Zero Waste Boxes directly to the public that are also sold through major retailers, and several other programs in partnership with waste management companies, distributors, etc.

Given its growth and success with traditionally “non-recycled” waste streams, TerraCycle anticipates it will have significant competitive advantages in the Universal Waste category; we are preparing to open the TerraCycle Universal Waste division in mid-2017 and seek an experienced director to lead the business.

The term “Universal Waste” was adopted by the US EPA.  There are four types of federally mandated universal waste:  Batteries, Pesticides, Mercury-Containing Equipment  (Electronics) and Mercury Lamps (fluorescent bulbs and ballasts).  By federal and state laws (which vary by state), Universal Waste cannot be put into municipal solid waste; but rather, must be specially treated through an EPA registered Universal Waste processing company. Relevant Federal Universal Waste regulations are found in Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in part 273

We are looking for a capable and dynamic manager with Universal Waste experience to build the TerraCycle Universal Waste Division into a large and multi-country division, which will be part of our global Zero Waste Box division (http://zerowasteboxes.terracycle.com).  Consistent with TerraCycle’s other operations, we will outsource processing and use third party carriers and warehouses.  We will target a broad range of existing corporate customers that are already engaging TerraCycle to recycling various waste streams, and offer to the public greener Universal Waste solutions to be developed with our renown in-house R&D team.  The manager will also work with our communications and marketing teams to offer clients a range of promotions around their company’s commitment to greener treatment of Universal waste streams.
