TerraCycle public drop-off point FAQs

What is a TerraCycle public drop-off point and what does it involve?

TerraCycle public drop-off point is a location that increases access to recycling solutions for hard-to-recycle rubbish through TerraCycle’s free recycling programmes. The location and operating hours are displayed on our public map (which can be found on participating programme pages), so community members can find nearby drop-off points and contribute to the recycling collections.

By bringing communities together to keep more recycling out of landfills, we can continue to empower collective environmental action. The more recycling communities collect, the more TerraCycle Recycling Rewards points the drop-off location earns. These can be redeemed as cash donations to school, charities, and nonprofit organisations

How do I change my drop-off point details on the TerraCycle map?

Simply sign in to your TerraCycle account, click the icon in the top right corner, and choose “Profile” from the drop-down menu. Under the “Account information” tab, select “Public drop-off point details”.

Click “Edit your profile” and save your changes. This will automatically update your details on the map.

Who should manage a TerraCycle public drop-off point?

Depending on your circumstances, you could be the manager, or you might appoint an employee, student, or community member. This person is responsible for updating your public drop-off point details via your TerraCycle account, keeping the recycling station clean and organised, and mailing your rubbish to TerraCycle for recycling.

Do I receive a collection box from TerraCycle?

No, we won’t send you a collection box for your rubbish. Simply fill any cardboard box - or receptacle of your choice - with rubbish (using separate boxes for each programme) and download a free shipping label from the programme page to mail it to TerraCycle. Check out our public drop-off point guide for tips on setting up your recycling station and storing your community’s rubbish before you send it to us for recycling.

How do I fundraise for my chosen charity or school by recycling with TerraCycle?

When you send in shipments of hard-to-cycle rubbish for recycling through many of our free programmes, you earn TerraCycle Recycling Rewards points that are redeemable as monetary donations to schools, charities, and nonprofits. You accrue points based on the weight of your shipment or the number of items you send us.

Each TerraCycle point you earn is equivalent to $0.01. You must accrue at least 3,500 points ($35) to donate to any school or charity, or at least 1,000 points ($10) to donate to our featured charities.

Can’t find your school or favourite charity on the donations list? Head to our Rewards page and click “Add new charity” to add them to our database.
