How it works

Becoming a public drop-off location is an easy and efficient way to collect Gerber® baby food packaging and small and large hook Gerber® baby clothing hangers in your community and build the national recycling network.

  1. JOIN! Turn your community organization, workplaces, store or residence into a local recycling solution by clicking the Join Program button at the top of this page.

Once you are accepted into the program, your address will be listed on a public map and individuals will be able to drop off their collections with you. You will be able to ship the waste your location collects to TerraCycle for free and earn TerraCycle points for your shipments.

  2. SET UP! Once confirmed, set up a recycling station in a highly visible area and start collecting Gerber® baby food packaging and small and large hook Gerber baby clothing hangers in any box you have.
  3. COLLECT! Collect Gerber® baby food packaging and small and large hook Gerber baby clothing hangers from community members dropping off for recycling at your location.
  4. SHIP! When your collection box is full, pack it up, and download a free label from your TerraCycle account to ship via UPS.

What you can recycle

Gerber® baby food packaging, such as flexible or rigid plastic packaging, shrink labels, plastic containers, plastic lids, flexible plastic pouches, and small and large hook Gerber® baby clothing hangers.

NOTE: Please do not send in any glass, basic #1 and #2 plastics (such as plastic lids and containers), aluminum, or any other municipally recyclable packaging unless you are unable to find local recycling solutions.

Best practices for recycling

Make sure your collection bin is easy to find and in a location that’s easily accessible to the public.

We encourage you to ship when your box is full of Gerber® baby food packaging to minimize the transportation carbon footprint for this program. You don’t need to clean the packaging before sending it to TerraCycle, but please remove as much of the remaining product as possible. UPS will not accept dripping packages, so please make sure your items are dry.

What happens to your recyclables

Once collected, the Gerber® baby food packaging and small and large hook Gerber® baby clothing hangers are cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products, such as park benches and picnic tables. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.

Rewards

Shipments in the Gerber® Local Recycling Solutions program must be at least 5 pounds to earn TerraCycle points. For all qualifying shipments, 100 points per pound will be awarded.

Awarded TerraCycle points can be allocated toward a variety of charitable gifts or redeemed as a payment of $0.01 per point to the non-profit organization or school of your choice. Each piece of baby food packaging sent in will earn approximately 4.00 TerraCycle points and will be counted based on an average unit weight of 0.04 pounds.
