Recycle all performance nutrition packets and packaging through this program.
TerraCycle® and GU Energy Labs have partnered to create a free recycling program for performance nutrition packaging, as well as a fundraising opportunity for participants.
In light of recent business closures at the guidance of the CDC and local governments, we strongly recommend contacting your local recycling location to confirm they are still open and collecting before leaving your home to drop off.
Local retailers in your community are recycling performance nutrition packaging right in their store. Look at the map below to see if there’s a location near you that’s participating.
Participating is completely free and very easy.
Program accepted waste: All brands of performance nutrition packaging including energy chews packets; energy gel packets; hydration, recovery, and energy drink mix stick packs and packets; GU Energy Gel 15-Serving pouches; and energy stroopwafel wrapper
In order to recycle this waste stream properly, please make sure all excess product has been removed (i.e. leftover GU product). Additionally, if you choose to rinse your product, please note that it must be completely dry prior to shipping. You cannot ship dripping packages.
Once collected, the packets are shredded and melted into hard plastic to make new recycled products. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.
Shipments in the Performance Nutrition Recycling Program must be at least 2 pounds to earn TerraCycle points. For all qualifying shipments, 100 points per pound will be awarded.
Awarded TerraCycle points can be allocated toward a variety of charitable gifts or redeemed as a payment of $0.01 per point to the non-profit organization or school of your choice. Each piece of performance nutrition packaging sent in will earn approximately 0.46 TerraCycle points and will be counted based on an average unit weight of .0046 pounds.
