No, you do not need to clean the packaging before dropping it off for recycling, but please remove as much of the remaining product as possible before dropping it off at David Jones Stores. Community Collection Hubs will not accept dripping items, so please make sure your items are dry.
David Jones sponsors this national recycling program making it free for you to participate.
The program accepts the following items for recycling:
Empty plastic bottles and pumps from skincare and hair care
Empty glass bottles, jars and pots
Caps and tubes in regular, travel and sample sizes
Empty foundation bottles, compacts, lipsticks and gloss, eyeshadow palettes, mascara, eye and brow liners
This program does not accept:
Aerosol cans
Perfume bottles
Nail polish bottles and nail polish remover bottles
Electronic items such as blow dryers and straighteners
Any bio-medical or bio-hazardous waste or
Any contents of packaging such as nail-polish, lotion, soap or ointments

Once collected, the beauty packaging is cleaned and separated by material type. The fibres and plastics are recycled into raw formats that manufacturers use to make new products.
