The Ansell Nitrile Glove Recycling Programme

This programme is only designed for users of Ansell gloves in Pharmaceutical or Bioscience Manufacturing Companies, Research Facilities or Universities based in mainland UK or the Isle of Wight.

Unfortunately people based in the following locations cannot participate at this time: the Hebrides, Isle of Man, Shetland Islands, Orkney Islands, Isles of Scilly, Jersey or Guernsey. We apologise for any inconvenience.

To register your interest in the programme please complete the form found here - an Ansell representative will then contact you in due course. In order to participate in the recycling programme, you must be approved by Ansell. Once approved TerraCycle® will be in direct contact to set up your account and provide all necessary details and materials to launch the collection at your site.

We accept only disposable gloves from Ansell. Disposable gloves of any other brands are not accepted by TerraCycle®. Furthermore, we cannot accept Ansell gloves that are contaminated, according to the European-wide list of wastes Regulation (AVV) as they are considered dangerous and must be disposed of properly. These include:

• Disposable gloves, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 15 02 02 and are contaminated by dangerous substances (E.g. chemicals).
• Disposable gloves, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 18 01 04 and are tainted with blood, secretions or excreta.
• Disposable gloves, which according to AVV waste key are categorized as 18 01 03 and are fraught with reportable pathogens, if a spread of the disease is to be feared.

Disposable gloves that are available through retail stores and are used in household cannot be collected in this recycling programme.

We recommend you provide your employees with collection boxes or a bin liner close to where they exchange and dispose of their used Kimtech™ disposable gloves. Please ask your Ansell representative for labels that can be put on the collection boxes to identify them as receptacles for used gloves. When the collection box or bin liner is full, transfer your collected gloves into the bulk bag (provided by Ansell).

Yes, you will need to cover the cost of transporting waste from your facility to the nearest TerraCycle® warehouse. An Ansell representative will provide you with further information regarding the costs.

Once the bulk bag is full, you will need to arrange the transportation of the waste to the nearest TerraCycle® warehouse and cover the cost. Before arranging transportation, please check availability to receive your shipment in the local warehouse at least 5 working days before you are planning to book transportation. An Ansell representative will provide you with further information of how to arrange the transportation. 

The gloves are initially stored by our logistics partner. When we’ve collected a sufficient amount of disposable gloves from all the different participating companies in the Ansell Nitrile Glove Recycling Programme, we start with the recycling process. We try to recycle the disposable gloves as locally as possible and with the available and most up-to-date technologies and infrastructures. The nitrile gloves are processed using an extruder to produce plastic granules, which serves as a secondary raw material for new plastic products. Disposable gloves can be further processed in order to become the raw materials used to make the likes of park benches, waste bins, or watering cans.
