Newell Brands Home Fragrance Recycling Program

Recycle all Newell Brands’ home fragrance products and packaging through this program.

Recycling in partnership with Newell Brands

TerraCycle® and Newell Brands have partnered to create a national recycling program for all traditionally non-recyclable home fragrance products from Yankee Candle®, WoodWick® and Chesapeake Bay Candle®.

Did you know that some candle glass may be accepted through your curbside recycling program? Check out this page for more information on ways to upcycle, reuse, or locally recycle your empty candle jars!

Find a Location Near You

Please see below for what you can recycle through this program, and use the interactive map below to find a participating Yankee Candle® retailer where you can drop them off near you!

Please note, this map is constantly being updated with new locations, so check back frequently!

How it works

Participating in this program is simple and free. Please check your local recycling solutions for empty (no wick, wax, or lid) candle glass before sending.

If your local recycling solution doesn’t accept candle glass or there’s no participating Yankee Candle® store near you, join this program and download a label to send your collections to TerraCycle.

What you can recycle

All Newell Brands’ home fragrance products from Yankee Candle®, WoodWick®, and Chesapeake Bay Candle®, including: candles, wax melts and melt cups, diffusers and refills, plug-ins and refills, room sprays, fragrance beads, and auto air fresheners and refills.

  • This program only accepts room sprays 1.5 ounces and under.
  • This program does not accept paper, bubble wrap, or other materials not listed above. Non-compliant items interfere with the recycling process and can pose a safety hazard to our warehouse operations team.
  • This program is for Newell Brands’ home fragrance products without a local solution.

Best practices for recycling

  • Check your local recycling program to see what types of glass are accepted. If empty candle jars can be recycled locally, please recycle through your curbside program. Ensure candle jars are free of wax, wicks, and their lids before recycling curbside.
  • If recycling through the mail-in program, please fill your collection box as much as possible before shipping, make sure it is tightly packed, and make sure your box is properly taped so that the seams and perimeters are securely sealed.
  • Please do not include any bubble wrap, paper, or other materials not listed above under What You Can Recycle.
  • We encourage you to send larger and less frequent shipments to minimize the transportation carbon footprint for this program and make it an even bigger win for the environment!

What happens to your recyclables

Once collected, the home fragrance products are cleaned and melted into hard plastic that can be remolded to make new recycled products. Click here to learn more about the recycling process.

Shipments in this program must be 15 pounds in order to receive points. For shipments over 15 pounds, 100 points per pound will be awarded.

TerraCycle points can be redeemed for a variety of charitable gifts or a payment of $0.01 per point to the non-profit organization or school of your choice. Each piece of home fragrance product and packaging from any brand you send in will earn you about 115 TerraCycle points. All brands of home fragrance products and packaging will be counted based on an average unit weight of 1.15 pounds.
